2022 Subaru WRX: Australian Model Range Has Been Revealed Early

Subaru will be offering five trim grades, two body styles, and two transmission options.

The Australian model range of 2022 Subaru WRX has been revealed earlier than expected. It will be available in five variants. According to government documents, the new wagon and sedan will arrive in Australia in the second quarter of 2022.

The documents also revealed that the 2022 Subaru WRX sedan range would have three variants. One of those would be an unnamed base model. The second would be a mid-spec RS, while the top of the range model would be tS (that will be tuned by STI). The 2022 Subaru WRX will also have two versions of Sportswagon, a flagship tS, and a base model.

A buyer would be able to choose from continuously-variable automatic (CVT) gearboxes or six-speed manual gearboxes. The manual might be exclusive to the base WRX and WRX RS sedan models that are the cheapest. It is likely that all the Sportswagon variants will be CVT-only. The company followed this approach in the US and might also do the same in Australia.

The full specifications of the 2022 Subaru WRX will be announced only when the launch happens in the second quarter of next year.

It is possible that the new tS variants will draw close links to Japanese-market STI Sport R EX versions of the WRX sedan and wagon which build on lesser variants that come with red STI exterior badging, an STI-badged steering wheel, Recaro sports seats with leather and suede upholstery, ZF-designed adaptive dampers and a drive mode select system.

The features available on affordable variants sold in Japan include a 4.2-inch driver instrument display, standard front seats with cloth or suede trim, and (rather than the 12.3-inch all-digital unit. All models of 2022 Subaru WRX in Australia might also have LED headlights, 18-inch alloy wheels, heated seats, a six-speaker sound system, and automatic air conditioning.

The 2022 Subaru WRX will come to Australia in the second quarter (April-June) of 2022. The pricing details are yet to be shared. Prices in Japan start at 4,004,000 yen, which comes around to about $AU50,000. The most affordable Levorg costs 4,389,000 yen or about $AU54,800.
