In other parts of the world, hospitals already find themselves with critical levels of supply due to the coronavirus pandemic. In the UK, James Dyson has revealed that his company has created a new ventilator to “address the specific needs” of patients suffering from coronavirus. In an email to staff, Dyson stated that his eponymous company had created the “CoVent” at the request of UK’s Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

The UK government ordered for 10,000 ventilators from Dyson to support their country’s National Health Service. He explained that the new ventilators can be manufactured “quickly, efficiently and at volume.” “The core challenge was how to design and deliver a new, sophisticated medical product in volume and in an extremely short space of time,” Dyson said. “The race is now on to get it into production.” He also explained in his letter that he will donate 5,000 units to the international effort to fight the virus.

In the US, like Dyson, big companies like Tesla, General Motors and Ford have released information that they are producing medical equipment, including ventilators and protective gear to help coronavirus patients.
