Elon Musk is known for making outlandish statements on social media. He did it again and sent Twitter into meltdown by claiming that he would buy Manchester United from the Glazer family.

Musk dropped the bomb when discussing his political leanings. He wrote: “To be clear, I support the left half of the Republican Party and the right half of the Democratic Party!” Soon after, he wrote, “Also, I’m buying Manchester United ur welcome.”

As Musk says a lot on Twitter, people can’t identify when he is joking and when he is telling the truth. As Manchester United is valued at £4 billion, the Tesla CEO can definitely afford it.

Manchester United is no doubt one of the biggest clubs in the world. But due to back-to-back defeats, the team is sitting at the bottom of the league and needs help desperately. The team might have hoped that Musk was the hero they had wished for.

When many people on social media asked the billionaire if he was buying Manchester United, he clarified. Musk stated, “No, this is a long-running joke on Twitter. I’m not buying any sports teams.”

He did say that he had a soft spot for Manchester United, and if he ever bought a sports team, it would be them. He said: “Although, if it were any team, it would be Man U. They were my fav team as a kid.”

Fans of Manchester United have been at odds with the Glazers since they used multiple loans to buy the club back in 2005. The debt is yet to be paid off. The fans have also protested their ownership multiple times and used the slogan ‘Glazers Out’ on banners throughout Old Trafford.

Things got worse in the last few years as the team on the pitch, the club’s training ground, and the facilities at Old Trafford have declined, and there has been no investment from the owners. The fans also plan to boycott the club’s next match at Old Trafford against huge rivals Liverpool. The hashtag #EmptyOldTrafford is gathering momentum on social media. As per the latest plan, fans will empty their seats and leave the stadium looking bare.
