Apple is trying hard to break the image of being the brand behind the iPhone. It is introducing new stuff to connect with the audience better. The latest attempt in this regard is the announcement of first-ever Apple Music Awards that will celebrate the best and boldest musicians of this year and the impact the stars had on the global culture.

The winners of Apple Music Awards were handpicked by a global editorial team of Apple Music that consisted of tastemakers and experts. The awards for Song of the Year and Album of the Year are based on streaming data of Apple Music customers. Those artists were appreciated who have a real passion for their craft and have the guts the defy conventions in the category and embody a sense of humanity that helps them draw the audience to themselves as well as their songs.

Talking about the awards, the Vice President of Apple Music and International Content, Oliver Schusser said “The Apple Music Awards are designed to recognise the passion, energy and creativity of the world’s favourite artists. The musically diverse group of inaugural winners have sparked deep social conversation, influenced culture and inspired our customers around the world. We couldn’t be more excited to celebrate them.”

The winners of Apple Music Awards are – Global Artist of the Year goes to Billie Eilish.

Songwriter of the Year goes to Billie Eilish O’Connell, Breakthrough Artist of the Year 2019 goes to Lizzo, Album of the Year goes to “When We Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?” by Billie Eilish and Song of the Year goes to “Old Town Road” by Lil Nas X.

The Apple Music Awards would be shared during a special event on December 4, 2019, that will be held at the Steve Jobs Theater. The hunk of metal given to the winners is quite interesting too. It is designed by the team that designs iconic products of the brand. Even the Design Head, Jony Ive was involved in its creation.

Each award is about 20 inches tall by 16 inches by three-quarters of an inch. The winners can either mount the award on a wall or use an acrylic stand to show it off. Apple wanted to create an award that includes trademark materials like silicon, brushed aluminium and polished glass. The size of the award is similar to a record.

It seems Apple Music Awards are similar to the Spotify’s upcoming award show that was announced last week and will be organized in Mexico City on March 5, 2020. There is one major difference though, Spotify’s awards will be based entirely on user-generated data, which isn’t the case with Apple Music Awards.
