A lot is happening in the watch world recently. Sometime back, Pharrell and Richard Mille collaborated for an exclusive watch, and now two more renowned names have joined hands to create a marvellous Triple-Axis Tourbillon for MB&F. Popular watchmakers, Kari Voutilainen and Eric Coudray have worked creatively in collaboration to create the watch that’s creating a lot of buzz.

Max Büsser of MB&F took help of Coudray and Voutilainen. The former is known for creating complex and wild mechanisms while the latter focuses on creating exceptional timepieces that are sold under his name and are admired by top-notch watch collectors. The collaboration was done to create “the craziest, most cinematic three-axis tourbillon ever.”

The watch they created is something special as it has spherical tourbillon complication with three axes that revolve at different speeds and varied planes. The revolving time for the innermost structure is just 8 seconds which is a record while the middle cage boasts of 20 seconds. The time is 20 seconds for the outer cage.

What entices people about the watch is the proprietary TriAx mechanism. It is undoubtedly the world’s fastest triple-axis regulating system. Seeing it for yourself is a precious moment as it rises above a light-blue guilloche dial plate (like a tornado) in a whirlwind of caged gears and pinions. The watch is certainly the most talked-about timepiece since Drake’s Patek Phillipe that was recently in news and had 1,343 diamonds and a self-winding mechanical movement.

Coudray had the idea behind the watch for 20 years and has brought it to life recently. Voutilainen played a key role in finishing the aesthetics and the movement. He also created the guilloché pattern which is on the plate and sits beneath the movement and the off-centre, tilted dial. The duo had countless sessions which indicate how hard they worked to make this stunning timepiece.

The 44 mm by 22.2 mm piece costs about USD 280,000 (more than AUD 410, 000). Only the super-rich watch collectors who need a new toy to play with and then store for long would probably be able to get their hands on the watch.
