Johnny Depp has just posted on his Instagram account to announce that he will not be returning as Gellert Grindelwald in the third installment of the Fantastic Beasts film series. In his recent post, Johnny Depp mentions that Warner Bros. “asked” him to resign, a request to which he has agreed to. The news comes just a few days after losing his libel case in the U.K. regarding the Sun’s claim that Depp abused his ex-wife Amber Heard.

Johnny Depp’s Instagram post goes on to read: “The surreal judgement of the court in the U.K. will not change my fight to tell the truth, and I confirm that I plan to appeal. My resolve remains strong and I intend to prove that the allegations against me are false. My life and career will not be defined by this moment in time.”

Warner Bros. has yet to announce who will be Johnny Depp’s replacement as Grindelwald in the  Fantastic Beasts film series.
