Let’s Do the Nearly Impossible - Decode The Witcher Timelines
The Witcher – Netflix

There isn’t an ounce of doubt about the fact that The Witcher of Netflix is one of the most appealing shows of today’s entertainment world. But one thing that stops it from being a perfect series is its convoluted plot that takes place over a period of 40 years and involves characters that age usually and some who don’t age at all! Here is a small attempt to decipher the timeline madness.

Present Storyline

The storyline of young Ciri that shows the invasion of Citra by Nilfgaad is the present time. By the end of season one, it’s quite clear that Geralt was in the castle when Cintra fell. Season two of The Witcher will pick up after Geralt meets with Ciri. The showrunners have even promised that season two of the Netflix show will be more linear.

The Story of Yennefer

Yennefer’s story in The Witcher takes place over 30 years prior to the fall of Cintra. As she doesn’t age, knowing her exact timeline is a bit difficult. After finishing her training, she says that she spent three decades while serving kings before she went solo. So, 30 years is the minimum one can assume.

Yennefer’s Training and Fall of Cintra

Grealt’s storyline takes place before Yennefer’s training and fall of Cintra. He becomes bound to Ciri in this timeline. Viewers can also see a young Queen Calanthe who died in the first episode of The Witcher.

If you have watched The Witcher once already but couldn’t decipher all the madness, then you don’t need to worry. A timeline created by EricJohnstonDC for Netflix’s show is quite organised and comprehensive. So, you can use it if you are planning on second or third viewings.

Just remember not to trust the timeline if you are watching The Witcher the first time as it’s full of spoilers that might ruin the anticipation factor that’s an essential part of the show. It should be used to figure out exact timelines during a re-watch as it’s quite handy and simplifies a lot of things that the show doesn’t explain well.
