Maserati is planning to electrify its entire vehicle fleet by 2025. Sharing the strategy at an online fashion event, the CEO of the company, David Grasso, said that the company would offer the latest Grecale SUV in battery-powered form. It will be accompanied by two other cars the brand recently revealed.

The CEO of Maserati, Mr Grasso said, “The new Gran Turismo and Gran Cabrio models will be electrified, too, [and] all our line-up will be electrified in the next five years.” The company is planning to launch MC20 and GranTurismo supercars by 2021 and 2022, respectively. The electric version of the Grecale would probably be out in 2022 while the Quattroporte saloon will be launched in 2023.

Maserati’s plans for electrification are nothing new for the industry. In 2019, Fiat announced that it would invest USD 6 (about AUD 8.17) billion in hybrid and electric cars. Earlier this month, Bentley also announced that all the new models of the automaker would be battery-electric by 2030. Even BMW announced in last July that it would electrify the 5 series as a part of the plans to roll out 25 electric vehicles over the next three years.

Though a spokesperson for Maserati in Australia did not share more details on the electrification plans of the brand, the person said that an update would be shared when more information is ready to become available for the Aussie market.

It is worthy of mentioning here that the Fiat Chrysler (FCA) subsidiary recently unveiled the MC20 supercar in Australia which is powered by a mid-mounted 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged V6 that is capable of producing 463kW/730Nm. The company has confirmed that an all-electric version of the MC20 will be launched soon. It will have a driving range of 325 km, but the official release date has not been shared yet.

The current COVID-19 pandemic might slow down Maserati’s electrification plans. But still, we think the company is committed enough to stay on the path while tackling all the delays that it might face. We also think that like most of the other carmakers, Maserati wants to enhance its brand image by being more sustainable and eco-friendlier. Don’t you think?
