Matrix Resurrections is an action sci-fi film that is an important part of the franchise. A new trailer of the film was released. It unveiled the return of Agent Smith and the new powers of Neo. The original writer/director Lana Wachowski is also returning with this film. She co-wrote the script of The Matrix: Resurrections with Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchell.

After the release of The Matrix Revolutions, she had declined the development of a fourth instalment in the franchise. At that time, she and her co-director and co-writer sister Lilly intended to close out a trilogy. Sometime after that, Wachowski brought a pitch to Warner Bros.

According to the plot, the Matrix Resurrections will take place after 20 years. Neo will be alive and will be plugged back into the virtual world. According to the trailer, he will be living a normal life as Thomas A. Anderson in San Francisco. He will get a chance to reunite with the similarly amnesiac Trinity and the red pill-offering Morpheus will reopen his eyes to the reality of the titular universe. He must resume his fight to save humanity and regain who he was at this time.

According to the trailer, the Matrix Resurrections again has Carrie-Anne Moss and Keanu Reeves as leads. It will also star franchise vets Daniel Bernhardt, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Lambert Wilson. The film will also have new stars like Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Neil Patrick Harris, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Christina Ricci, Jessica Henwick, and Jonathan Groff.
