Snap released its first Spectacles in 2017. While the concept was certainly an interesting one, the design of the glasses was not too well-received. Overall, the glasses looked very flimsy, just the old sunglasses that gather dust in shops for years because nobody would buy them.

Regarding the new Snap smart glasses, the CEO of Snap stated, “[We can] now realistically ground digital objects in the physical world.” He further added, “I just think that the next-generation of Spectacles can help unlock a new way to use AR hands-free, and the ability to really roam around with your eyes looking up at the horizon, out at the world.”

Of course, the design of the Snap smart glasses is very sleek. And the glasses have strong AR capabilities. However, they do not offer anything beyond that. Hence, these glasses might not be for the masses. Instead, they will appeal only to a specific number of people.

 

Nevertheless, the smart glasses industry is definitely growing at a fast pace. For instance, Facebook is entering the market in collaboration with Luxottica, the maker of Ray-Ban. According to rumors, Apple is also developing its own smart glasses and will release them in 2023. Hence, many people are excited about Snap smart glasses and models from other manufacturers.
