When it comes to animated films, two studios have played a key role in making the art form popular all over the globe. The first is Disney-owned Pixar that pioneered 3D animation and is known for telling heartfelt and socially conscious stories. The second is Studio Ghibli that popularized Japanese anime in the West. It holds the credit for films like Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, and My Neighbour Totoro.

In essence, both studios have made a mark in the world of animation. Now, it seems that they might be heading towards a collab. The speculations began when the Japanese Twitter account of Studio Ghibli posted an intriguing artist rendering. It showed Monsters Inc’ characters Sully and Mike implanted into the iconic bus stop scene of My Neighbour Totoro. It fuelled speculation that Pixar might join forces with the Japanese studio soon.

Could Studio Ghibli and Pixar do a collab?

As Studio Ghibli never makes sequels, you will not likely see Monsters Inc. or Totoro characters together on a project. The studios are friends, and it was revealed later that the artwork was supposed to sit in the Pixar exhibition at the Ghibli museum at the time of Monsters Inc.’s release.

It is not clear whether Studio Ghibli has shared the tweet to show the friendship or there is something else.

The possibility of a collab between Pixar and Studio Ghibli faces another major roadblock. It is a well-known fact that Disney, the owner of Pixar, has tried to botch some Japan-based studio releases. The Mouse House, which was the in-charge of US distribution, did not do well at the rollout of films like Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke. It relegated the animated Ghibli Studios’ films to the arthouse circuit.

This clearly indicates that the relationship between Disney and Studio Ghibli is and has been sour for a while. So, the chances of a collab between Disney-owned Pixar and the Japanese Studio are quite low. It is also probably the reason why Ghibli movies do not stream on Disney Plus but HBO Max. In other news, Joe Rogan recently stated that straight men are being silenced due to the Woke culture. He also received criticism for the same.
