Tesla Autopilot upgraded to improve safety

The Tesla Autopilot feature has always been surrounded by controversies. For instance, a Tesla car crash in April sparked debates and investigations. However, it was found that the Autopilot feature was not engaged at the time of the crash.

Though, this certainly does not mean that the Tesla Autopilot feature has a clear pass. Just recently in California, another car crash has gained everyone’s attention. Reports are linking the accident to the autopilot feature.

At the same time, many automotive enthusiasts ask, what is the use of the Autopilot feature, after all?

Well, the most widely accepted opinion is that driver-assist and autonomous driving are two different things. Tesla might have unlocked a lot but has not yet achieved full autonomous driving. Hence, the Tesla Autopilot feature is merely for the driver’s assistance.

To deal with these controversies and countless reports of misuse, the Monitoring System in Tesla now requires every driver to remain vigilant. This is achieved with the help of a camera that faces the driver. This camera would track the attentiveness of the driver when the Autopilot is on.

As a result of this, it would now be very difficult for drivers to trick the Tesla autopilot system now. Indeed, a great safety precaution, given the increasing reports of car crashes due to the Tesla autopilot abuse.

Tesla just recently stated, “The cabin camera above your rear-view mirror can now detect and alert driver inattentiveness while Autopilot is engaged. Camera data does not leave the car itself, which means the system cannot save or transmit information unless data sharing is enabled.”

While similar changes were expected for a while, they just got recently implemented. According to speculators, the new Tesla Autopilot upgrade would improve the safety of roads considerably. After all, drivers will not be able to lay back leaving the car on its own.

In other automotive news, the SSC Tuatara (dubbed as the fastest production car) has now become even faster.
