Tesla: Self-Driving Car Feature Will Be Available Through Subscription
Tesla

Tesla is making things a bit easier for customers who are waiting to experience riding a self-driving car in the future. During the company’s quarterly earnings call this Wednesday, Elon Musk announced that the company would offer the self-driving car feature on many Tesla vehicles and it will be implemented as a subscription service business model. It is great news, especially for Aussies as the future of self-driving car feature is still murky in our country.

Announcing the plans about self-driving car feature that will be implemented as a subscription service business model, Elon Musk said “I think we will offer Full Self-Driving as a subscription service, but it will be probably towards the end of this year. I should say, it will still make sense to buy FSD as an option as in our view, buying FSD is an investment in the future. And we are confident that it is investment that will pay off to the consumer. In my opinion, buying FSD option is something people will not regret doing.”

It is good news for customers as a few weeks back it was announced that there would be an increase in the price of the full self-driving car feature package. Many sources say that the framework for the subscription service has been in the code for a while.

It has been the smartest thing Elon Musk’s company has come up with, especially after the Tesla Cybertruck window mishap. Currently, the price of the Full Self Driving Package is USD 7,000 (about AUD 10,846). This price will increase as the company will add more features to it. The price rise will probably happen in July.

The problem with the self-driving car feature in Tesla cars is that the feature is not usable yet. For instance, In Australia, buying a car with self-driving feature and paying a hefty price for it will be foolish as several laws won’t allow that. Right now, only autopilot is available in Australia, and the Full Self Driving package is yet to reach our country.

In addition to details of subscription package regarding Tesla’s self-driving car feature, the earnings call also had some verbal fireworks. The clearly frustrated Elon Musk ranted about coronavirus and the stay at home orders issued by the US government. Nothing new there!
