This time, Ubisoft is adding Vikings to its Assassin video game series. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, revealed yesterday, is taking on a Norse-inspired setting. The game’s first official trailer features a cinematic look at the game and it is all about “heartless, godless barbarians.”

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla stars Eivor, a Viking raider, as he or she (the players will be able to chose their character’s gender, as well as customize their character’s look) leads the clans “from the harsh shores of Norway to a new home amid the lush farmlands of ninth-century England.” From there, players will be able build settlements and apply customization and upgrades, while also doing raids at fortresses and forging alliances. Ubisoft also teases drinking games, hunting, fishing and “verbally devastating rivals through the art of the Viking rap battle.”

The gameplay of the Assassin’s Creed series has long been built around an open-world parkour adventure, but with the release like 2018’s Assassin’s Creed Odyssey the game have moved the series into a new territory. It placed a major focus on roleplaying elements and have given players the chance to direct their character (one of two siblings, dealer’s choice) through branching decisions while playing the game. Combat, once mostly performed through stealth, is now also deeper and allows more customization.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla definitely appears to continue that gameplay trend. The new game is expected for launch for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Google Stadia, as well as the new Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5.
