BMW has been dedicated to electrification in the last few years, and the latest attempt in this regard is the 2021 BMW iX that has been declared as the next generation technology flagship. The shape and size of the car resemble the X5, but it is not a replica. The iX has a sharp and bold look that would make you think of the i4 concept that caught the attention earlier this year. It means that the vehicle has several aerodynamic elements from the rear hatch to the front bumper. It includes the new kidney grille and utilises bold black accents.

The interior of the new BMW iX will make you think of a minimalist sci-fi spaceship as it is designed to maximize space, the interior has been trimmed of nearly every extraneous detail, making the 14.9-inch infotainment system and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster that is located behind the steering wheel the focus areas o the dash. The centre console has the iDrive controller and a rocker switch rather than a traditional gear shifter.

The BMW iX will have two electric motors that will be situated on two axles. It will also have an underfloor-mounted battery pack that has a capacity of more than 100 kWh. Together, they can let BMW iX churn out 500 horsepower and lets the vehicle go from 0-60 mph or 0-100km/h in less than five seconds.

Another impressive feature of the BMW iX is the targeted range of 600 kilometres in the European WLTP cycle. The car will also support DC fast-charging rates of up to 200 kW. It will allow you to go from 10 to 70 per cent capacity in 40 minutes and completely charge the battery in 11 hours.

The production of BMW iX has already been planned, and the car building process is scheduled for the second half of 2021. Australian release of the car can be as soon as the fourth quarter of 2021, a few months after the expected deliveries of  the two new models from the brand, the 2021 BMW M3 and M4. These performance models are already on sale in Australia, and the deliveries are expected in the first quarter of 2021.
