One of France’s historical jewels, the Louvre Museum is home to countless treasures, but its walls contain more than the usual lately. The museum currently holds a major exhibition featuring the extraordinary works of Leonardo da Vinci, the largest ever, and the occasion that struck Virgil Abloh of Off-White as a great opportunity to celebrate the event with a dedicated capsule collection.

Rendered in Off-White’s signature streetwear theme, the lineup includes a selection of casual t-shirts and plush hoodies screen-printed with some of the most recognisable works of Leonardo da Vinci, such as Virgin of the Rocks and well-known sketches from his famed notebooks.

Virgil Abloh, stated that his fascination towards Leonardo Da Vinci and his works is decades-long. “I was fascinated with da Vinci early on–I was in my senior year at Wisconsin, taking an art class.” He also added, “I was super interested not only by his artworks but also by the influence he had in many disciplines besides art: science, engineering, architecture.”

Leonardo da Vinci’s wide knowledge and multifaceted creative output seems to act as an inspiration of sorts for Abloh, as the designer who is also enthusiastic about other art forms mainly,  music, interior and graphic design in addition to his strong fashion sense which are clearly visible in both Off-White and the menswear arm at Louis Vuitton. “That you can be interested in expressing yourself through more than one practice and that creativity does not have to be tied to just one discipline…I think that Leonardo da Vinci was maybe the first artist to live by that principle, and I am trying to as well,” Abloh also said.

All of the brilliant designs used to document the collection was photographed in the Louvre museum’s Grande Galerie, with its ornate mouldings and soaring ceilings contrasting with the contemporary streetwear looks.

The capsule collection will be available in the gift shop and website of the Louvre. It will also be available  in Farfetch.com and Off-White’s own website. For somewhere between $355 (A$516) to $640 (A$931) you can have your very own Leonardo da Vinci x Off-White collaboration.
