When it comes to launching vehicles, Mercedes-Benz knows how to do it right. The marque recently unveiled the new S-Class Guard for heads of states and business leaders who hope to travel discreetly and decadently. It can withstand assault rifle bullets and grenades.

The Armoured Mercedes-Benz S-Class Guard weighs about 5 tons and has a VPAM VR10 certification, that is the highest level of ballistic protection available for a passenger car till now. As a result, it can move smoothly when a barrage of bullets is fired on it and can even survive the detonation of two hand grenades.

The Armoured Mercedes-Benz S-Class Guard also has polycarbonate glass windows which are about 4 inches thick. It also has Michelin PAX run-flat tires that can also keep going even after a puncture. The vehicle also comes with a fire extinguishing system and an emergency fresh air system that can help handle smoke, fire, or gas attacks.

While talking about the Armoured Mercedes-Benz S-Class Guard, the Head of Product Management of the car project, Dirk Fetzer, said, “No other series-produced saloon fulfils the highest protection class for civilian vehicles quite as comprehensively. And at the same time, quality and durability are at series standard, thanks to extensive development and testing activities. The new special protection version protects what matters.'”

The interior of the Armoured Mercedes-Benz S-Class Guard is also very impressive. It has diamond-quilted leather seats, a lot of legroom, and the latest infotainment system. Unfortunately, it doesn’t have a sliding sunroof for security reasons.

The V12 of the Armoured Mercedes-Benz S-Class Guard has been detuned in terms of torque and pumps just 800 Nm, not 900 Nm it had in Maybach S680. The horsepower is 450 kW, and the speed can go as much as 190 km/h. Many other aspects of the vehicle, like steering, gearbox, and suspension, are also tuned to make the vehicle stealthier and ensure that it can escape any emergency quickly.
