The trend of stories began with Snapchat and was later adopted by Instagram. Eventually, other social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter joined the bandwagon as well. And apparently, now TikTok, the viral video platform is going to experiment with stories.

TikTok Stories

Just recently, Matt Navarra highlighted this upcoming feature on Twitter. With that, a spokesperson from TikTok also confirmed it. Though, instead of naming the feature something unique and fancy, the viral video platform will call it “TikTok Stories”.

The functionality of TikTok Stories will be like Snapchat and Instagram. Live stories will be displayed in a new sidebar and will be live for 24 hours before automatically disappearing. Users will also be able to comment and react to these stories.

Furthermore, to load a story, users will simply tap on the story, just like on other social media platforms. With that, a live story will also be accessible via the profile picture.

According to TikTok, this new feature will be a “new way to interact with your fans.” Users on the platform will be able to create new stories by tapping a single button present on the sidebar. The usual music, text, and captions will be available for stories.

Though, unlike other social media platforms, TikTok stories will feature videos only and no images. It looks like the platform wants to stick with its true essence. After all, it is a viral video-sharing platform.

Regarding this, a spokesperson from TikTok stated, “We’re always thinking about new ways to bring value to our community and enrich the TikTok experience.” The spokesperson also added that the team is currently experimenting with different ideas that can help content creators in improving their creativity.

However, yet, the team has not revealed the extent to which the stories or other upcoming features are being tested. Though, reports suggest that some select users already have access to TikTok stories currently. However, over the next few weeks, more users are expected to receive the update.

In other news, Google has announced that the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 pro phones will feature all-new Tensor SoC, which will massively boost the performance.
