Tesla has a history of revealing future products, exciting customers, and delivering the products years later or not delivering what was expected. It was proved once again during Tesla Cybertruck unveiling when two windows shattered and left Elon Musk red-faced. Another thing Tesla is known for is its ability to woo the customers. It has happened too as Musk tweeted on Saturday that 146,000 orders for Tesla Cybertruck have already been placed.

The process of ordering Tesla Cybertruck is easy. The customers just need to visit the website and order it by spending USD 100 (about AUD 147). This money is fully refundable. It is also stated that the production would start in late 2021. Sharing the details of the orders in the Tweet, Elon Musk said 42 percent of orders by Saturday consisted of the dual-motor option that costs USD 49,900 (about AUD 73, 500). About 41 percent orders are for the triple-motor option costing USD 69,900 (about AUD 102,980). The production of the latter will begin in late 2022. Only 17 percent people ordered the single motor version of the Tesla Cyber truck that begins at USD 39,900 (about AUD 58,700).

One of the reasons for the immense popularity of Tesla Cybertruck is that anyone can reserve it for USD 100 (about AUD 147) rather than USD 1,000 (about AUD 1,470), the amount required for booking the Model 3 sedan.

Tesla is earning huge from its demonstrations and focus on future tech. As of September 30, 2019, it had USD 665 million (about AUD 979 million) in customer deposits. This figure was shared during a regulatory filing.

Whether Tesla Cybertruck deserves this much hype or not isn’t clear. Though it has some cool features like a stainless-steel door that can’t be dented with a mallet, it also has a vulnerability. During the demonstration, when a metallic ball was thrown at two windows, and both of them shattered.
