In 2019, there were rumors that Lashana Lynch will be playing the role of 007 from the next James Bond movie, ‘No Time to Die’. However, the response received from a group of vocal online trolls was rather disappointing and disgusting.

At that time, the news was not confirmed. Yet, the trolls kept complaining about a black woman playing the 007 Title, something that was previously held by white males in all James Bond movies.

Though Lashana Lynch responded to them quite bravely. She said, “It doesn’t dishearten me. It makes me feel quite sad for some people because their opinions, they’re not even from a mean place—they’re actually from a sad place” in November 2019.

Just recently though, Lashana Lynch confirmed that she will be taking the title of 007 in the next James Bond movie. Furthermore, she also added that she will be the very first black woman to take this role.

Furthermore, Lynch added that she had emotionally prepared herself for a horrible backlash. So, she took a break from social media and took reminders that all the disgusting comments that toxic fans made were not directed at her.

In this regard, she added, “I am one Black woman—if it were another Black woman cast in the role, it would have been the same conversation, she would have got the same attacks, the same abuse.”

And that seems to be quite true. Based on past trends, such a backlash was indeed inevitable. A similar backlash has been seen in other movies in which the lead roles were taken by actors who were not white men.

Overall, though, Lynch’s new role of 007 will bring a lot of diversity into the James Bond franchise. It shall also give fans a new perspective to consider.

Furthermore, this character will be different from James Bond and will have a fresh appearance.

Let’s put those trolls aside, the true fans are indeed excited to see James Bond in his Aston Martin. The real fans also hope that Lynch will keep the legacy of Sean Connery and other legendary Bonds alive under the new title.
