Rumours of a Switch upgrade were around for a long time. But now, the time has come. An upgraded Nintendo Switch OLED is finally hitting the stores on 8th October in Australia, the same day as Japan and the United States.

To start, the Nintendo Switch OLED is going to cost $539.95 (AUD). This is at least $160 more than the price of the current switch model in most of the stores.

However, most speculators were looking forward to a Nintendo Switch Pro. But instead, Nintendo came up with an OLED model featuring a 7-inches 720p screen.

This is certainly a decent upgrade, as the previous model had a 6.2 inches screen. Unfortunately, the Nintendo Switch OLED does not come with 4K TV support. This new switch will deliver 1080p in its docked mode, just like the regular Nintendo Switch.

Apart from a decent screen upgrade, other specifications of the Nintendo Switch OLED seem rather underwhelming. Nintendo has stated that the new Switch is not receiving any upgrades to the RAM, GPU, or CPU. So, these specs are just the same as the previous switch model.

There were also many rumours that the next switch might use the DLSS technology by NVIDIA. But it did not turn out to be true. At the same time, the battery life of the new Nintendo Switch model would be 9 hours on a full charge – the same as the 2019 refreshed model.

Again, there is no support for Bluetooth headphones. Although this new model will feature enhanced audio, that only applies to its built-in speakers. At least, they refreshed the look of the dock.

Another notable change is in the colours. You can get the new Nintendo Switch OLED in a neon blue/neon red combination or a white/black set. With that, this new Switch would have compatibility with the previous docks as well.

Fans that were waiting for tons of launch games are out of luck. Currently, there is only one launch game: Metroid Dread.
