BMW is working on expanding the X line of crossovers and SUVs. According to recent reports from multiple reliable sources, the company has plans to introduce BMW X8 and it has taken the first step in this regard by filing a trademark.

The German automaker has filed a trademark in the name X8 M at the German trademark and patent office. This move might suggest that the line will finally get a new model, BMW X8 after years of speculation. It is also likely that the company is working on a high-performance variant of the car.

According to reports, the trademark that paves the way for BMW X8 was filed on March 24, 2020, and the name was officially registered on April 1, 2020, a week later. It is the second change the company has adopted in the recent past. Last time, the automaker made news, a few weeks ago about the new BMW logo.

Keeping in mind the naming convention of BMW up to this point, BMW X8 will be a coupe and SUV crossover based on the X7 (the model shown above) that’s in production. The full-size SUV with three rows is the company’s largest vehicle at the moment and has proven to be a crowd-pleaser since it was launched in 2018. BMW X8 will likely be launched with such high hopes in mind as well. The company will probably work on making BMW X8 biggest than similar models from Audi, Porsche and Mercedes-Benz.

The automakers’ idea of registering BMW X8 as a trademark and not just X8 is making people wonder whether X7M is on the way or not. There have been rumours along those lines since the release of X7, the most powerful vehicle offered by the company that is the M50i that has a twin-turbocharged 4-litre V-8 which churns out not only 523 horsepower but also has 553 lb-ft of torque.

Fans have been expecting 600 horses from the brand, and now their hopes are on BMW X8. Only time will tell whether these hopes will be fulfilled or dashed by the brand.
