Coronavirus or COVID-19 is the biggest threat to humanity at the moment and this is the reason the Aussies are facing new restrictions after every few weeks. The latest one is the stage 3 lockdown that has been imposed in Victoria and might soon be imposed on all of us soon. Here’s what you need to know about it.

Victoria is the first state to impose stage 3 lockdown, and it has been done soon after the new restrictions were implemented in the entire country. This step has been taken as the number of cases in the state are inching towards 1,000. The new social distancing rules will be implemented harshly, and people can be fined up to AUD 1,600 if they fail to comply with the set measures.

It may sound harsh, but stage 3 lockdown is essential if Australia wants to control the spread of disease and flatten the curve. In stage 3, all indoor and outdoor gatherings are limited to a maximum of two people. These limits will be enforceable by the police from Monday midnight. The limitations are not on households with more than two members of the same family. Even sharehouses, workplaces and schools are exceptions.

A person who lives in a sharehouse of 3 people can allow one non-family member to visit. All the housemates can leave the house together only if you are seeking medical treatment, going food shopping, exercising or commuting to work or study that is unavoidable.

There is little clarity on whether compassionate visits mean. Still, such visits are allowed or not as per stage 3 lockdown. Visiting family is allowed even if you live in different locations. For instance, if you live in Abbotsford and you want to visit family or partner living in Prahran, you can do that.

With regard to stage 3 lockdown, the official directive of the Victorian government is “If you can stay home, you must stay home.” If the situation keeps worsening, stage 3 lockdown will soon be implemented in the entire country.

Stay safe everyone.
