Ryan Reynolds to Bring Back 1980s Iconic Game Dragon’s Lair

Ryan Reynolds is onto his next quest. The Deadpool actor will star in and produce one of the most iconic arcade games of the 1980s, the Dragon’s Lair. Netflix has closed the deal to acquire the rights to the memorable game after spending a year in negotiations. Here are the details.

Roy Lee’s Vertigo Entertainment will produce dragon’s Lair while Trevor Engelson from Underground Films will join him. They will also be joined by Jon Pomeroy, Don Bluth and Gary Goldman. Ryan Reynolds will also produce via Maximum Effort, his banner. Dan and Kevin Hageman will write the script. The duo worked on The Lego Movie and Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark previously.

For those who think what’s the big deal about Ryan Reynolds working on this project should know that Dragon’s Lair was one of the most popular games in the US. It was launched in 1983 and revolutionized the entire arcade industry thanks to its movie-style arcade by Bluth, the director of other amazing animated films like Dogs Go to Heaven and An American Tail. The game became very popular due to the envelope-pushing technology which used LaserDisc to ensure that the story advanced perfectly. The game has been seen in Netflix’s most popular series, Stranger Things that’s set in the 1980s.

The plot of the video game revolves around Dirk the Daring, a knight who must rescue Princess Daphne from the wizard Mordroc and an evil dragon Singe. So, it’s likely Ryan Reynolds will be the honourable knight.

When the project actually takes off, it will be the third project of Ryan Reynolds and Netflix. The action movie 6 Underground and Red Notice (currently shooting). It isn’t the first time Ryan Reynolds is doing a feature based on a video game either. He will star next in Free Guy that revolves around the story of a man who realizes that he is just a background character in a video game. This movie was scheduled for release this July, but the coronavirus pandemic will probably delay it.
