Amazon Studios has some good news for video game lovers. The company has licensed the rights to the popular game franchise Fallout. It will have Westworld Creators, Lisa Joy, and Jonathan Nolan. They will produce the Fallout TV show via Kilter Films.

For people who are unaware, Fallout is a popular video game that has gained worldwide recognition and has been around since 1997. The game takes place in the future post-nuclear war in 2077 that resembled the American 1940s or 1950s. The protagonists emerge from the underground after many years, and they have to deal with harsh environments and savage wilderness.

Fallout is a critically and financially successful game series that has seen many re-imaginings and sequels over a span of 23 years. The franchise has also received many Game of the Year Awards and posted record sales. The mobile game Fallout shelter was also super popular as it has 170 million downloads already. But the Fallout TV show would be the first of its kind.

Talking about the Fallout TV show, Albert Cheng, the COO and CO-Head of Television, Amazon Studios said, “Fallout is an iconic global franchise, with legions of fans worldwide and a rich, deeply compelling storyline that powers it. And Jonah and Lisa are the perfect storytellers to bring this series to life. We’re thrilled to join with Bethesda to bring Fallout to television.”

Nolan and Joy also released a joint statement regarding the Fallout TV show. They said, “Fallout is one of the greatest game series of all time. Each chapter of this insanely imaginative story has cost us countless hours we could have spent with family and friends. So, we’re incredibly excited to partner with Todd Howard and the rest of the brilliant lunatics at Bethesda to bring this massive, subversive, and darkly funny universe to life with Amazon Studios.”

Though the Fallout TV show will be quite unique, it is not the first video game that has received the TV treatment. The Last of US is already being adapted for television by HBO, work on the Halo series is being done at Showtime, and a feature based on Borderlands is also in the works. There is no word yet on when Fallout TV show is expected to be released.
