The Army of the Dead recently premiered on Netflix on 21st May 2021. The new zombie movie by Snyder has received mixed reviews from critics and casual movie enthusiasts alike. Announced in 2007 by Warner Bros, the film underwent several pushbacks before Netflix got on board.

Warning: Army of the Dead slight spoilers ahead.

Overall, Army of the Dead is quite a fun zombie film. The film looks like it intends to be an emotional roller coaster but fails to achieve the depth. But in terms of action, the movie could fall into the same category as Aliens by James Cameron.

Zombie movie enthusiasts should not certainly expect a cinematic wonder. It has been a long time since fans have seen another zombie film by Snyder, with the Dawn of the Dead (2004) being the previous entry. In that sense, the Army of the Dead is certainly quite enjoyable.

Well, it certainly is not a horror movie. It is more like a unique take on classic zombie movies. The visuals are fascinating, though. So, this is where the film makes up for all the elements that it lacks.

Though, critics say that the Army of the Dead could have certainly been shorter. The film runs for around 2 hours and 28 minutes, and most viewers don’t find the storyline of Geeta and Kate amusing. Furthermore, several other bits do not add anything important or interesting to the plot.

As a director, Snyder is known for his unique design of film sets. He certainly knows how to build the right atmosphere and aesthetically pleasing scenes for the viewers. While the Army of the Dead might be lengthy, some critics suggest that run-time is necessary to get to know each character and their story.

Though, everyone seemingly agrees that the first 2/3 of the Army of the Dead is interesting. The remaining part, however, might feel rushed. Overall, it looks like a 3.5-hour movie cut to approximately 2.5 hours due to a lack of budget and time.
