Tesla has delayed the production of Cybertruck till 2022. It was announced by Elon Musk, the company’s CEO, during the Q4 earnings call of the company. It is one of the most anticipated vehicles by the brand that was unveiled in 2019.

Tesla Cybertruck delayed

The delay in the production of Cybertruck will impact all the truck models- single, dual, and tri-motor models. Earlier Tesla had stated that the dual and tri models would be produced before the single models. So, the plans of the company have changed considerably. The website’s order page now says this – “you will be able to complete your configuration as production nears in 2022.”

During the Q4 2020 earnings call, Elon Musk stated, “So we finished almost all of the Cybertruck engineering. So, we’re no longer iterating at the design centre level or design level. We’ve got the designs fixed.”

Though the delay in the production is not good news for people who have booked one, the announcement from Elon Musk did not surprise the fans. Some time ago, the VP of Vehicle Engineering for Tesla, Lars Moravy, had stated the Cybertruck was “at a stage where we finished basic engineering of the architecture of the vehicle.”

Cybertruck became a meme material since its launch in 2019. It also faced some production issues as the engineering design was finalized only in January 2021. The executives at Elon Musk’s company had to opt for an entirely new manufacturing process for the exoskeleton body of the vehicle.

Even though the delay in production was announced, Elon Musk’s company has not stopped the pre-orders. You can pre-order a Cybertruck for an AU$ 150 deposit. About one million orders have been placed so far.

In addition to the Cybertruck, Elon Musk’s company is also boosting the production of Model Y and working on completing the Giga Texas plant, which is being built in Austin. So, Tesla has a lot of pending work to finish.
