Everything We Know About Samsung Galaxy Z Flip Phone So Far
Details on the most-awaited foldable phone
Samsung is one of the market leaders in the global mobile phone manufacturing industry. The company does everything it can to stay ahead of the competitors and retain its place in the hearts of the customers. The latest effort by the company in this regard is to compete with new Motorola Razr by working on a clamshell-style foldable smartphone. Rumours say that it will be called Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, will be loaded with features and will be priced less than its key competitor. Here’s everything we know so far about the device.
It’s Smaller Than People Think!
The first thing about the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip Phone that catches the attention of the audience is that the folding mechanism is expected to be far different than a Samsung Galaxy Fold. A Fold is kind of a tablet that folds to become a phone, but a Samsung Galaxy Z Flip Phone might be a normal-sized smartphone that can be folded up into a small square. It’s two halves would likely close more systematically than the Motorola’s new Razr.
Fewer Chances of Failure
People who follow the gadget news would know that Galaxy Fold was redesigned due to its unreliable plastic screen. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip Phone aims to avoid this problem by probably using a glass screen that might help avoid the ugly bumps and lumps. The glass would likely be ultra-thin and is expected to have fewer wrinkles. Though a plastic layer on the top is still a possibility.
It can be confirmed that the Galaxy Fold2 leaked not long ago will use an ultra-thin glass cover for the first time in the world, replacing plastic materials. The screen looks flatter and has less wrinkles. In fact, this is the correct cover material for foldable phones. pic.twitter.com/BS73BCsA4N

The Name Game
Samsung seems to be experimenting with new name strategies. After Samsung Galaxy S20, this new device might be called Samsung Galaxy Z Flip Phone or Z Flip. It might also be called Bloom which refers to how the phone opens and closes like a flower.
Samsung was very smart with the Galaxy Z Flip (just got word this is the name.)
They are using ultra thin glass and plastic. Samsung will be layering a plastic over the ultra thin glass for extra protection. If it gets scratched, it's only the plastic and not the display.

The Display
The display of a Samsung Galaxy Z Flip Phone will likely be 6.7 inches, larger than Razr (6.2-inch display). The screen could also have FHD+ (2636 x 1080) resolution along with a 22:9 aspect ratio. A user might be able to see the time, charging speeds and battery info on a tiny screen when it is closed. It could also be used as a viewfinder for the rear camera. The front screen would likely have a 1.06-inch OLED display along with a 300 x 116 resolution and always-on support.
Better Performance and Storage
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip Phone could have a Snapdragon 855+ chip that provides better peak clock speeds and 15% GPU performance improvement as compared to the non-plus Snapdragon 855 and a flagship-tier processor. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip Phone might also have 256 GB internal storage and 8 GB RAM but might not have microSD for expandable storage.
Camera Expectations
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip Phone is expected to have 12 MP cameras, one of which is wide and one is ultrawide. The front camera might be 10 MP. It could be the first device to record 8K video.
Battery Details
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip Phone could have 3,300 mAh battery and might support wireless charging, 15-watt fast charging and reverse wireless charging. The last feature could allow a user to charge Galaxy Buds by placing them on the phone. The battery might be split into two parts, which means that the battery might be present in both halves of the phone. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip Phone can also have a capacitive fingerprint sensor on its side.
The Minor Problem
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip Phone will not be likely to support 5G in the US. But Samsung can overcome this minor issue by adding a separate 5G modem. This method worked with Samsung Galaxy Note 5G. Also, Samsung Galaxy Z Flip Phone might have a 5G version in South Korea and potentially other regions of the world.
The Positions
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip Phone will potentially lock into two positions, 180 degrees and 90 degrees. The latter can help make the device resemble a kickstand. The device will likely have a self-supporting hinge that will probably allow a user to make video calls without the need to hold up the phone.
Just got a message from my source with more info on this. It's a double pivot hinge. You can basically use it to free stop at any wide and useful angle and it will hold. Seems pretty great. https://t.co/jRK4YjmPI4

The Pricing
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip Phone is expected to cost €1,500 (about AUD 2440) and might go for sale on February 14, Valentine’s Day. It might be unveiled on February 11, 2020. If the prices are correct, it will be cheaper than Galaxy Fold and Motorola Razr.
Just head from a new source:
