Extraction Ending Explained – Will We See Tyler Rake Again?
The ending purposefully leaves Tyler Rake’s fate quite hanging
Extraction has proved to be the money-maker for Netflix as the film is getting a lot of views, attention and appreciation. One thing that most fans are talking about is the Extraction ending.

People are curious to know whether Chris Hemsworth’s Tyler Rake is actually dead or he survived the deadly bullet somehow. Read on to know our take.
For those who haven’t watched the film, it revolves around Chris Hemsworth’s character Tyler Rake who is on a mission to save the son of an Indian drug lord. In many scenes, you will be reminded of John Wick’s “gun-fu” as the action scenes are quite similar.
It was quite obvious from Extraction trailer that the two of them will end up forming a bond and Rake will risk everything, even his life to save the boy, Ovi. Well, that’s what happened.
While many fans hoped for a satisfactory and happy Extraction ending, things got messy when Rake got shot multiple times, and a bullet even hits his neck. He gave one longing look to his team and the kid and then fell off the bridge. The real twist in the Extraction ending came when the final seconds of the film showed Ovi swimming at school while a blurry figure that looks like Rake was seen lurking in the background. It’s quite unclear if that was really Rake, alive and well, or a figment of Ovi’s imagination.
Director Sam Hargrave talked about Extraction ending and said they shot multiple endings so that the fans can believe what they choose to believe. He said, “If people on one hand feel like the story is complete and is a story of redemption through sacrifice, then for them, it’ll be where the kid is imagining [Rake standing there], and then now you go, ‘Yes, I’m satisfied.” If you feel like you love Tyler Rake, and you love Chris Hemsworth, and you want a sequel, and you’re like ‘There’s no way, you can’t kill him!’ then that’s Tyler Rake standing there looking at you. So, we kind of purposefully did not pull focus to the character standing there.”
After seeing this part of the Extraction ending, fans were sure that Rake is alive and there is a probability of a sequel. We believe that if ever Netflix comes up with another Extraction film with Rake as the hero (most probably they will as the film is currently doing great), it will be another story, new extraction plot and new villain as the India plotline has already had a satisfactory ending.
