Facebook Is Launching A New Dating App

Goodbye Tinder, Hello Facebook!

Single, ready to mingle?  If you are, Facebook Dating is here to be your wing man and help you out.

During the F8 Developer Conference held on 1st of May 2018, the Facebook CEO announced that the online social network will be releasing a dating service, simply called Dating, on its main app.

Dating, according to Mark Zuckerberg, the purpose of the app is to create real, long-term, and meaningful relationships between its users. “This is not just for hookups,” he stated.

The dating app will appear within every Facebook users’ main interface and it’s up to you whether you’ll use it or not.

According to Facebook Chief Product Officer Chris Cox, your Dating profile could be completely separate from your main Facebook profile, and you can access it in another section of the program. Dating would use your first name, four of your pics (which you would choose), occupation/school, and location.  Also, it would only be visible to those using the app and would not show on your FB Feed.

“We have designed this with privacy and safety in mind from the beginning. Your friends aren’t going to see your profile, and you’re only going to be suggested to people who are not your friends,” Cox explained.

Cox continued and said that Dating users could “unlock” local events and message others who are planning to attend.  If someone does respond, the two of you would connect via a messaging feature that is apart from Facebook Messenger. You could also browse other Dating members of a Facebook group that you are in.  If you find someone you fancy, simply click “Interested.”

“We like this by the way because it mirrors the way people actually date, which is usually at events and institutions they’re connected to,” Cox said. “We hope this will help more folks meet and hopefully find partners.”
