The Star Wars have been in the news for what seems like forever now. And all the reasons for making the news aren’t good. A few months back, Quentin Tarantino negatively affected the brand when he said that Star Trek was better than Star Wars. Now, latest reports from Deadline says that Game of Thrones creators, D.B. Weiss and David Benioff have backed out from a trilogy they were supposed to create. This might impact the brand negatively.

The duo has exited the deal with Disney and Lucasfilm, which was about creating a three-movie saga that was to be released in 2022, 2024 and 2026. It’s not confirmed whether new makers (like Kevin Feige) would be found or the dates will be postponed. Weiss and Benioff, who faced a lot of criticism for messing up the Season 8 of Game of Thrones, released a statement confirming their retraction.

It read, “We love Star Wars…When George Lucas built it, he built us too. Getting to talk about Star Wars with him and the current Star Wars team was the thrill of a lifetime, and we will always be indebted to the saga that changed everything…There are only so many hours in the day, and we felt we could not do justice to both Star Wars and our Netflix projects. So we are regretfully stepping away.”

Kathleen Kennedy, Lucasfilm President also released a statement that read, “David Benioff and Dan Weiss are incredible storytellers,. We hope to include them in the journey forward when they are able to step away from their busy schedule to focus on Star Wars.”

The fans who had been waiting for more films after the release of Star Wars Episode IX are disappointed by this step taken by Benioff and Weiss. Some fans are grateful that the duo won’t get a chance to mess up Star Wars as they did the final season of GoT and some are disappointed that they choose the massive nine-figure overall deal at Netflix over the Star Wars deal.

It is probable that Benioff and Weiss will face more criticism and trolling from people as their mishaps are getting larger by the minute. First, they created a critical dud, the eighth season of GoT. Then they made some unfavourable after the episode comments and after that, they cancelled a Comic-Con Appearance.

As fans of Star Wars, we are grateful that Benioff and Weiss won’t mess up the franchise. Their backout allow Disney and Lucasfilm to search for someone who considers Star Wars more than just a side-project!
