On Monday, Harley Davidson shared that its first electric bicycle is now available for purchase. It is created by the US motorcycle manufacturer’s e-bike outfit, Serial 1. Named as Mosh/Tribute, this e-bike pays homage to Harley Davidson’s oldest motorcycle, Serial Number One that was first built in 1903.

Harley Davidson had said that the electric bicycle was more a styling exercise. It seems that the company has now changed its mind. The electric bicycle will be available in three sizes to ensure that riders of different heights can be accommodated. The company will offer a limited-edition model of the inaugural model.

The key features of the electric bicycle include a glossy midnight black paint job and white Schwalbe Super Moto-X tires that are made exclusively for Harley Davidson’s e-bike. These tires have a low-rolling resistance and good shock absorption. The electric bicycle also has a hand-crafted leather seat with matching grips that are made by Brooks England. They are meant to make people nostalgic.

The creation of Harley Davidson runs on the Brose S MAG motor that has a brushless interior rotor and produces up to 90Nm of torque and a speed of up to 20 miles per hour or 32.18 kilometres per hour. The electric bicycle also has a Gates carbon belt drive which allows a rider to avoid the need for regular chain adjustments or lubrication.

The front and rear hydraulic brakes of the electric bicycle make use of 203 x 1.88 mm brake rotors and two-piston callipers, which work in all weather conditions. It also has a freewheel hub for direct connection between the road and the rider.

The eco-mode of Harley Davidson’s e-bike offers gentle assist in favourable and flat conditions. In contrast, the tour mode optimizes assistance and battery use if someone is riding during mixed riding conditions. The electric bicycle can help a rider climb steep hills or get through extended periods of sustained efforts. It also has bright LED headlamps on the handlebar and brake lights on the frame dropouts that make a rider more visible to other vehicles on the road, especially at night.

The electric bicycle from Harley Davidson is overpriced. It will cost US$ 5,999 and about AU$ 82560 in Australia. It will have only 650 units, and the deliveries might begin at the end of 2021.

In other news, Rivian R1T and R1S could launch in Australia.
