Metro Melbourne will be under lockdown again. Melbourne lockdown will begin at 11:59 tonight and will end at 11:59 pm on September 2. This change of plans happened as Victoria has recorded 530 exposure sites and twenty-two new local cases of the dangerous Delta variant of COVID-19.

Though the metro Melbourne lockdown will begin from 11:59pm on August 16, Monday, the Premier, Dan Andrews, has asked people to respect it from 9pm and stay at home from that time onwards. As per the new rules, people in Melbourne will need to be back inside their homes every night from 9pm to 5am. They will also need to wear masks whenever they leave their homes.

A person can only exercise for two hours a day and that too with just one person from their household. The 5km travel limit is also still there. A Victorian media release highlighted the Metro Melbourne lockdown news and stated, “Unfortunately, based on the current trajectory of the outbreak, we will not be in a position to lift restrictions on Thursday as planned. Victoria’s Chief Health Officer has declared that from tonight the lockdown restrictions will be strengthened and extended in metropolitan Melbourne until 11.59 pm on Thursday, September 2. This is an additional 14 days on the previous directions.”

According to the new metro Melbourne lockdown news, workers will need to carry permits when attending authorized work or if they work at construction sites. This rule was there during the Melbourne lockdown that took place last year. “Permits will be required to leave the house for authorized work, consistent with the arrangements that were in place last year. Additional restrictions will also apply to the construction industry, again operating as it did last year with staffing reductions in place except for critical infrastructure and emergency repairs.”

Large scale construction sites are asked to reduce the staffers to five people or 25 per cent, whichever is higher as per the new metro Melbourne lockdown news. The new lockdown restrictions are partly because people became too relaxed. A fine of AU$350,000 was recently levied on the guests of an illegal engagement party that was organized in Melbourne during the lockdown. Even Premier Daniel Andrews mentioned that he was angry and disappointed because of the selfish choices of sixty-nine people who attended the event.

In other news, NSW also issued stringent lockdown restrictions just days ago.
