Sonic the Hedgehog Restarts with a New Official Trailer

The redesign of the character definitely looks better

Sonic the Hedgehog Restarts with a New Official Trailer
Sonic the Hedgehog – Paramount Pictures

The first trailer of Sonic the Hedgehog arrived earlier this year and was quickly met with negative criticism for the physical features of Sonic. The widespread backlash to the CGI of Sonic forced the film to delay the movie release so that Sonic the Hedgehog could be fixed by the showrunners. Now, Paramount Pictures restarts with a new trailer of Sonic the Hedgehog, and much loved video game character looks better.

Sonic’s main graphical change is that the ears are bigger, and the head of the CGI is much less elongated. The complete creepy set of human teeth? Gone. Just like you would expect from a CGI version of the Japanese video game star, Sonic looks smaller, cuter and gives out a bit of nostalgia. They actually did a good job at listening to the fans and now, everyone’s quite happy.

The trailer starts with the character explaining how he came to earth, revealing that people on his planet were always after his powers, which led him to move. The video also looks at Jim Carrey as Doctor Robotnik, showing Sonic — played by Ben Schwartz — and Sheriff Tom Wachowski (James Marsden) trying to escape.

See the updated trailer as Sonic and Wachowski’s run from Robotnik as they escape across the world, taking in landmarks from a giant rubberband ball landmark to the Great Wall of China.

Sonic the Hedgehog to arrive in theaters from February 14, 2020.
