When you make arrangements for Christmas entertainment, you need to follow a budget. But when it comes to tech giants like Apple, the budget is not an issue. It can splurge millions of dollars in one go. That’s what exactly happened when Apple bought the rights to A Christmas Carol, a new live-action musical based on the classic by Charles Dickens that will star Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrel. It beat competitors like Netflix, Paramount Pictures and Warner Bros.

This project is probably going to put a dent in even Apple’s budget as the cost of hiring the stars has come down to USD 60 million (Or AUD 88,998,900). The cost of hiring writer-directors John Morris and Sean Anders will also be added. Apple can also expect some additional production costs. For those who don’t know, Anders and Morris command such a high fee because of the love and attention they got for Daddy’s Home.

The latest project starring Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell might be released during 2020 or 2021 holiday season. It might also be exclusively released on Apple TV Plus. But all this is speculation because nothing has been made official yet.

If you are among the rare humans who haven’t heard of the Charles Dickens classic, you should know A Christmas Carol revolves around Ebenezer Scrooge who is visited by ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future. There is no word yet on who will play Scrooge, Ryan Reynolds or Will Ferrell.

A Christmas Carol has proven to be a Hollywood staple as it has been recreated many times. Only time will tell how successful it will be for Apple or Ryan Reynolds and whether Apple’s investment would help it to lead the pack of entertainers someday.

Ryan Reynolds will next star in Free Guy and 6 Underground while Ferrell will star in

Eurovision and Downhill. As both of them are quite busy these days, it’s unlikely that the shooting for Apple’s A Christmas Carol will begin right away. We’ll let you know if and when that happens. Keep checking this space regularly for updates.
