Nintendo released Super Mario 64 in 1996. It was the first 3D game that featured the mascot of the company, Mario. This year, a sealed copy of that game was sold for US$ 1.56 or AU$ 2.08 million.

Why was the Game Special?

In 1996, Super Mario 64 was special because it was the first at that time to feature a camera that could be controlled by people playing the game, independent of the character. It also had the concept of a central hub world which helped ease players into an all-new dimension and movement with the help of an analogue stick that was more precise than anything that had been launched until that time.

Why is This Copy So Special?

There is a reason why this copy of Super Mario 64 is so special. The first reason is that the plastic seal of the copy has not been ripped off but is intact. Secondly, its condition is perfectly fine. The plastic tab is still sealed against the box of Super Mario 64. It is also one of less than five copies present all over the planet that are in almost perfect condition.

Who Bought It?

Heritage Auctions have not shared the information on who bought the copy.

Another Record was Set Recently

It is not just Super Mario 64 that is insanely popular. An unopened copy of The Legend of Zelda was sold recently for US$ 870,000 or AU$ 1.15 million.

Why are the Records Broken Quickly?

The new records of buying unopened copies of video games are being broken so quickly because the world of collecting is expanding and getting more traction.
