The Dior and Travis Scott Summer 2022 Menswear Collection Revealed

Kim Jones and Travis Scott reinvent historic fashion house codes

Just recently, the Summer 2022 menswear show by Dior has ended. With that, fashion enthusiasts got the first look at the Travis Scott and Kim Jones partnership for Dior, referred to as “Cactus Jack Dior”.

The collection features the best of American street fashion blended with French luxury designs. And since this was not the first collection between Kim Jones and Dior, the expectations were quite high like always.

As far as the fashion show goes, the design of the set was extremely immaculate yet predictable enough. For instance, amidst oversized roses, there were huge cacti, nestled within a desert-like landscape. Along with that, a setting sun with a pink horizon further set up the right mood.

This might not be a coincidence. Back in 1947 when Christian Dior unveiled their first collection, the designer went all the way to the US where he showed his pieces off in Texas. The state is also home to Travis Scott. Hence, the connection to the Wild West might be deeper than the luxury brand collaborating with the celebrity artist.

Travis Scott influences was quite evident in this new Dior collection. For instance, the earthy palette (as Dior coins it “sun-bleached”, also featured in Scott’s previous collections of merch and collaborations with Jordan Brand

The collection by Kim Jones features some high-end tailored elements with sharp, asymmetrical lapel-less blazers and louche slacks with flared and slit hems,. La Flame’s Tour merchandise was also referenced in, paint-splashed washed-out T-shirts, while flared track pants and denim layers riffed on the sportswear and workwear.

Scott’s hand-drawn take on the Dior logo features Dior’s Oblique monogram reworked to spell out “Jack” reinforcing the co-creative direction at play.

Other than the fashion collection, Travis Scott also added his unique music to the Dior fashion show. Surprisingly enough, the rapper also debuted a new song on the show and ir seems that, it has not formally been communicated, neither in the beginning nor the end. Though, it is likely that it is some unreleased track, the studio version of which fans might get to hear soon (or perhaps never).

Nevertheless, Dior and Travis Scott also have quite a long history, with many past partnerships and new collaborations coming underway. At this point, it is almost as if Scott is fully invested in the brand, with the luxury house and both benefitting equally from this creativity.
