Chris Rock is an iconic comedian who has made us all laugh at one time or the other. So, the idea of him making a Saw movie that’s full of terrifying moments (like the IT films) made people think why the legendary comedian did it. The answer came at the Television Critics Association.

Chris Rock unveiled that he isn’t a fan of Saw movies and it all started with his chance meeting with Head of Lionsgate. He said “I was at a friend’s wedding, and they introduced me to the head of Lionsgate. I was like, ‘Lionsgate? Oh, Saw.’ And they called me up. I was just poking fun at the Lionsgate guy about Saw.”

Sharing how Saw movie will have some funny moments along with a lot of terrifying ones, he said “There are so many movies that I’ve watched and gone, ‘Three jokes would have made that movie a lot better.’ You know what I mean? A lot of times, you can get comedy in things, if it’s grounded, without it changing the movie, per se. Just like that story that Beverly Hills Cop was written for Sylvester Stallone. Eddie Murphy was hired at the last minute, and they made kind of the same movie, but it was grounded with just a little here, here and here. So, Saw is really scary and really bloody. It’s a Saw movie. But every now and then, you take a little air out. It’s gonna be good.”

The horror genre is proving to be more exciting with time. The path of Jennifer Kent, Ari Aster, David Jordon and Jordan Peele is being followed as all of them have successfully created wildly different horror films recently.

Highlighting how he wanted something different, Chris Rock said “You wanna be interested in what you’re doing. I was like, ‘Fargo? That sounds great. That’s an adventure I haven’t been on. I’ve never done a television show before. Okay.’ And then, ‘A horror movie? I’ve never done that.’ Even without art, just in life, you wanna travel and see new things, you wanna meet new people, you wanna try new foods.”

Chris Rock is doing the film with Max Minghella, Marisol Nichols and Samuel L. Jackson. The story is still under wraps, but the film will probably hit the theatres in the middle of this year. The trailer for the Chris Rock saw film- entitled Spiral: From the Book of Saw was released recently and it makes people think of David Fincher’s Seven. Rock stars as detective Zeke Banks in the film.

Spiral is directed by Darren Lynn who also directed Saw II, Saw III and Saw IV. So, the Chris Rock film will surely be worth a watch.
