‘He is not a corporate person and Gap is a big corporation.’

According to the former CEO of GAP, who also gets the most credit for the brand’s early 90s success, Kanye West should not have partnered with GAP. Mickey Drexler stated in a recent Yahoo Finance interview that partnering with GAP “doesn’t work for someone like Kanye.”

Gap’s former CEO also added, “I probably shouldn’t say this, but I told him he shouldn’t do the deal because it doesn’t make any sense in my opinion.”

Furthermore, Mickey Drexler also acknowledged the fact that the release of the latest YEEZY GAP jacket might have given Kanye West significant success. However, the partnership might not be perfectly matched between the two.

Regarding this, he mentioned “He is a smart guy, but he shouldn’t have done it. And I don’t think they should have done it, either.”

A decade-long partnership between GAP and YEEZY was announced in 2020. Along with that, the partnership resulted in an exclusive YEEZY GAP collection. Based on the performance on sales, YEEZY gets royalties and equity according to the deal over 10 years.

According to GAP, this deal is lucrative enough. It might be, as Kanye West has also made USD $7 million overnight.

Just over a month ago, Kanye West was spotted in what looks like a red version of the famous YEEZY jacket on the DONDA live album preview. Followed by that, GAP unveiled the black YEEZY-GAP jacket and archived all previous posts to prepare for the big drop.

Now finally, the brand has also unveiled the red round jacket which Kanye West was spotted wearing. This variant is also made of nylon and would be available in XXS to XXXL sizes. Along with that, the jacket has a coating of rubberized PU with a unique-looking collar-lapel.

Just like the other versions, the red Kanye West jacket is also priced at USD 200, which is roughly equivalent to AUD $271. Though, it will only be available for shipping around Spring 2022 in the US.
