Game of Thrones fans who are disappointed by the fact that the next season would be its last have something to cheer about. The author of the legendary series, George R.R. Martin has confirmed that the prequel to the show, which will be called The Long Night will have a setting that ranges from 100 years before the original GoT that was 5,000 years.

The Long Night will feature a time when the lands experienced a long winter, and the people had to live through terror and famine. It is the time when White Walkers were seen emerging from the North, and they had an army of wights that was meant to fight the living.

In such a situation, the First men were joined by the Children of the Forest and they used Dragonglass to not only fight the White Walkers but Bran the Builder as well (which might interest those who are curious about the origins of the Starks,) created The Wall and established Night’s Watch to ensure that the White Walkers don’t return from the northern border of Westeros.

Though there is a considerable time gap between the original GoT and The Long Night, it is a fact that these two stories are closely interrelated. The upcoming prequel will tell the beginning of the story which ends with Game of Thrones. So, the fans who are eagerly waiting for more of GoT have something to look forward to. For now, only Naomi Watts will star in The Long Night and no other popular stars have been confirmed for the prequel yet.

As one might have guessed, the fans of the GoT series are super excited for the upcoming prequel already. They are making speculations like how Targaryens will be introduced in the prequel or will they be simply omitted to make things easier and simplified. Some fans believe that the show may reveal what is happening in Essos, but some think that as the continents are not intertwined yet, doing so might not make much sense.
