Jacob & Co. Reveals the A$442,000 Bugatti Chiron Tourbillon

It has a tiny W16 movement engine inside complete with crankshaft and pistons

 

It’s raining luxury watches. A few weeks before we shared Breitling’s Top Time timepiece, MB&F Legacy Machine Thunderdome and the Jacob & Co’.s Ruby Caviar Flying Tourbillon.  Now, the latter partnered with Bugatti and have come to create another marvel, a mesmerizing and enchanting Bugatti Chiron Tourbillon that will be loved by watch-admirers all over the world.

 

 

Jacob and Co. has successfully reproduced the engine block of a sports car in 3D animation with a working crankshaft and 16 moving pistons that churn up and down when a button is pressed. The crankshaft is a marvel in itself as it was milled from just one piece of steel at such precise tolerances that CNC machines that produced it had to be programmed for three days.

 

Though the animated component of Bugatti Chiron Tourbillon is extraordinary, it has no horological purpose. The watch has two mainspring barrels. One drives the moment and the other drives automation. The automation of the engine lasts for 20 seconds, and a user can activate it three times before the need to rewound the mainspring arises.

 

Interestingly, the Bugatti Chiron Tourbillon has three crowns that are positioned at the end of the case. The role of the centre one is to wind the movement barrel in a clockwise direction. It also winds the engine barrel in a counter-clockwise direction. The role of the crown on the left is to set the time while the one on the right is a pusher which activates automation.

 

Another thing that entices about the Bugatti Chiron Tourbillon is that the moment has a 60-hour power reserve. It’s indicated on the gauge situated at 3 o’clock. Users can see a universal gas tank icon that is positioned between Empty and Full markers.

 

Jacob & Co. plans to produce 250 pieces of Bugatti Chiron Tourbillon. Each watch will cost USD 280,000 or AUD 449,000. This watch is the latest piece that is created from the iconic partnership of Jacob and Co. and Bugatti. It started last year with Twin Turbo Furious Bugatti and was followed by a triple-axis tourbillon. After that, they created the Epic X Chrono Bugatti 110 Years Anniversary Edition.
