Amazon Prime Video has revealed the official title for a highly anticipated live-action series based on The Lord of the Rings books by J.R.R Tolkien. It’s called The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power. Amazon has spent about $500 million to make the first season of the series, and it will have many seasons, so the money will need to be poured in.

“[It’s] a title that we imagine could live on the spine of a book next to JRR Tolkien’s other classics,” say JD Payne and Patrick McKay in an interview.
The Rings of Power unites all the major stories of Middle-earth’s Second Age: the forging of the rings, the rise of the Dark Lord, the epic tale of Numenor, and the Last Alliance of Elves and Men.”

“Until now, audiences have only seen onscreen the story of the One Ring — but before there was one, there were many… and we’re excited to share the epic story of them all.”

The accompanying narration for Amazon’s title reveal video is excitingly forged together set to the recognisable voiceover below:

Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky.
Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone.
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die.
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne.
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.

For those who haven’t heard of the Lord of the Rings series that will be released this year, it will tell a story set in the Second Age of Middle Earth. It is set thousands of years before Frodo’s adventures began. The development of Rings of Power began about five years back, and since then, showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay have led the way creatively. As expected, the Lord of the Rings Series will have a massive cast. Morfydd Clark is cast as a young Galadriel.

The title of the show, Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power, was shared uniquely by Amazon. It was unveiled with a stunning hand-crafted wood carving with metal lettering. The show will have eight episodes in the first season and will start streaming from September 2, 2022, in 240 nations. New episodes of Rings of Power will be released every Friday.

As the name Rings of Power suggests, the show will focus on 20 magical rings created to help Sauron expand his reach in the Second Age. Nineteen rings were distributed among men, elves, and dwarves, while the 20th was shared with him. It allowed him to get power over the rest. The new Lord of the Rings series will focus on Sauron’s rise to power. Númenor, the kingdom of Men, will play a key role here.

After the title was unveiled, fans understood what to expect from this version of The Lord of the Rings. Many believe that The Rings of Power might be capable of filling the void left by Game of Thrones as it’s also a big-budget, high-fantasy TV series that fans might fall in love with.

Official synopsis for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power:

Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power brings to screens for the very first time the heroic legends of the fabled Second Age of Middle-earth’s history. This epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and one of the greatest villains that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness. Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared reemergence of evil to Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the farthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.
