Indiana Jones films have been waiting for a revival for several years now. It seems that the hopes of the fans regarding the popular film series will soon bring in results as a new film in the series is in the works and will be released soon. Steven Spielberg will likely be directing the film while Harrison Ford will probably reprise his role of the iconic character.

The possibility of a new Indiana Jones film began a few years back when Disney bought Lucasfilm in 2012. But though the Mouse House was eager to start with the development of Star Wars films, they didn’t show the same enthusiasm for the Indiana Jones films. Though they got the full control of the IP in 2013 from Paramount, the film was officially added to the docked three years after that time. The film was supposed to be released in 2019, but it may now be released in 2021.

Many fans assumed that as Indiana Jones new film has dealt with multiple rewrites, the film might evolve to be a reboot. The President of Lucasfilm Kathleen Kennedy said that the film will be a continuation and is in the works. The statements were released during an interview she did with BBC at BAFTA red carpet. She said “We’re working away, getting the script where we want it to be, and then we’ll be ready to go. She also clarified that “It’s not a reboot, it’s a continuation”.

Ford’s fans expected him to return to the Indiana Jones films and he hasn’t disappointed them. The actor might be pushing 80, but his enthusiasm to act is clearly visible. He is continually working in films, and his latest film, The Call of the Wild will be released soon. The actor has also stuck with the idea of doing Indiana Jones films even after multiple delays.

Both Ford and Spielberg are expected to start filming Indiana Jones 5 this year itself. If they stick to the schedule, the film will likely hit the theatres in the middle of 2021.
