Will Filmmaker Taika Waititi Develop a Star Wars Movie?

The Thor: Ragnarok director is currently in talks Disney and Lucasfilm

After the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the fans have been curious about the next Star Wars movies and TV shows. According to the latest rumours, Lucasfilm and Disney have approached Taika Waititi to take on the directorial responsibilities of a future Star Wars movie.

 

For those who are unaware, Taika Waititi has directed many films, including an MCU film, Thor Ragnarök and an Oscar-nominated film, Jojo Rabbit. The Hollywood Reporter has shared that Waititi may work on the future films and TV shows of the Star Wars Universe.

Taika Waititi first associated with the Star Wars Universe when he directed the finale of The Mandalorian. The finale that appeared on Disney+ was well-received, which probably gave the idea to Disney and Lucasfilm to approach the director to helm the next Star Wars movie.

 

As Disney and Lucasfilm have already suffered a blow when Game of Thrones showrunners, DB Weiss and David Benioff quit Star Wars trilogy earlier, they would likely be more cautious this time. In addition to the Waititi movie, if it ever happens, Rian Johnson is also expected to work on more Star Wars projects in the future.

Waititi has played a key role in changing the future of Thor in the Marvel films. It’s thanks to him that Thor series was revitalised and Chris Hemsworth character was able to get meaty roles in Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. So, it’s likely that Disney and Lucasfilm are hoping that Waititi will bring the same magic to the Star Wars universe by creating a Star Wars movie.

 

It is not clear yet whether Taika Waititi will be a part of the Star Wars project on which Kevin Feige, the Marvel Studios President is apparently working on.

Many people opine that Waititi would do better if he is given the freedom to do things his way as he can add magic to any Star Wars movie easily.

Till the time of writing of this article, neither Lucasfilm nor Disney has confirmed the news of Taika Waititi being in talks for directing a Star Wars movie in the future.
