Jungle Cruise is one of the most anticipated projects of Disney this year. It is based on the Disneyland ride of the same name. The Jungle Cruise trailer has been revealed, and it looks quite promising. The Rock will play the role of a boat skipper named Frank and Emily Blunt will play the character of Dr. Lily Houghton, a researcher. Frank will take Lily and McGregor, her brother (played by Jack Whitehall) and embark in an epic journey where they aim to seek a tree with magical healing powers.

Blunt and Johnson have been giving people BTS information from the sets. In one video, Johnson said that Blunt’s character was “the female version of Indiana Jones.” The film will also be a love story and will have some supernatural element as well. After seeing the first Jungle Cruise trailer, many people have been comparing the film with Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise. In reality, the jungle amusement ride on which the film is based is older than the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. It was the only attraction in Adventureland in 1955, the opening day of Disneyland.

Last year, in August, it was rumoured that Disney would show the Jungle Cruise trailer during the D23 Expo, but it did not happen. The fans had to make do with a skewed trailer each from Blunt and Johnson.

The Jungle Cruise trailer is very serious, focused on plot but still dashed with whimsical or comical bits to balance the flow of the story in the trailer. Blunt’s Dr.Lily shares why she hired Frank and proceeds with the adventure in his ramshackle riverboat. She says “There is a legend in the jungles of the Amazon of a tree that heals all. It could change the world. But if it gets into the wrong hands, it could awaken a great evil. I believe that the legend is real and I’m going to find it.”

As expected, Johnson’s character is sceptical about it and says “I’ve been looking for this tree longer than anyone. You’re searching for something that cannot be found.” He also warns her by saying “Know this about the jungle. Anything you see wants to kill you and can.”

Later it becomes clear what Johnson’s character meant. There were a lot of imminent dangers plus, humans want to kill them too and shows Jesse Plemons’ character shooting a missile at their boat. Watch the new Jungle Cruise trailer below,  the film will cruise theatres 23 July.
