Will Alienware Concept UFO Disrupt the Gaming Industry?

The CES at Las Vegas is getting interesting by the minute. The latest addition to the news-worthy things was the Alienware Concept UFO. It is a portable PC gaming system that has detachable controllers. It can be played in tablet mode, handheld or by connecting to a television. Though the device is more fiction than reality now, if it becomes real, it has the potential to disrupt the gaming industry.

 

It was speculated that the Alienware Concept UFO is similar to Nintendo Switch, but it’s not the case. It is quite larger than the Switch as the screen is 10 inches as compared to 6.2 inches of the switch. Though both might seem to have similar functionality, the expressions and gestures of Dell and Alienware VP of Gaming, Vivian Lien made people think that she is not aware of the switch. So, any similarities between Alienware Concept UFO and the Nintendo Switch seem coincidental.

 

Coming back to Alienware Concept UFO, its controllers can be detached from the side which makes people think of Switch Joy-Cons. As a result, games can be played while connecting to a TV, in tabletop mode or can be handheld. The two halves of the Alienware Concept UFO snap together to create the full-sized game controller.

 

Though the Alienware Concept UFO is more of a concept than reality, its launch will surely impact the gaming industry that is gearing up for the launch of Sony PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X by the end of this year.

 

If made real, the Alienware Concept UFO can also prove to be a tough competitor of Google Stadia, the cloud-based gaming option from Google that launched in November but didn’t deliver on the features that were promised. It only has a small bunch of games.

 

People who prefer cloud-based game streaming and like the Alienware Concept UFO should spam Alienware social media so that they can create the product and launch it. If the price is not too steep, the device would be a fan favourite in a few months as it seems like a smart alternative to the Nintendo Switch.
