It’s a brilliant fantasy story with nostalgic feels

Dark Crystal prequel series uncovered a Throwback Mystical Realm
Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance – Netflix

While the world of cinema is moving towards highly advanced CGI effects, ‘The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance’ offers something extremely magical in a relatively unique production. This all-new series by Netflix captures the vintage physical puppets magic yet again! Some people have even termed it as the Game of Thrones of puppets.

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance was made available on the Netflix Australia streaming service on 30th August at 3:01 a.m. All the 10 episodes of its first season are hence, immediately available on Netflix. While the Dark Crystal Trailer had already shaken people to the core, its success as a series is still yet to gauge.

The story will feature Gelfings that used to live in Thra as a peace-loving race. According to the show’s lore about female Gelfings, a female once touched a rock and asked to be granted wings.

However, there are many stories other than the mysterious rock. According to another story, a Gelfing woman was given Cragrapto feathers by Aughra in order to track down orphaned children. However, their efficiency reduced over a period of time until the wings could only be used as a parachute.

The show acts as a prequel to the movie The Dark Crystal, which was released in 1982. Furthermore, the concept of the show has been taken from the tv classics such as Fraggle Rock by Jim Henson.

Perhaps one of the most intriguing things about The Dark Crystal is that it makes use of classic puppetry with unparalleled CGI effects (like His Dark Materials). This makes every puppet and scene look like they actually possess life and meaning. Hence, the entire vibe of the show is slightly unsettling yet extremely fascinating.

Who knew that puppets could be used for more than just entertainment for children? As it used to be in Fraggle Rock and Sesame Street. Looks like this may set a whole new trend in the cinema industry.

So in case you have been a fan of the classic puppetry in your childhood, chances are that you will see all your childhood memories coming back to life again. But perhaps, in a more mature and darker way.
