The Disney Star Wars expanded universe begins
Ever since the release of Star Wars: The Rise of the Skywalker, the fans have been wondering what will happen to the Star Wars universe. The answer has come in the form of a publishing initiative by Disney, Star Wars: The High Republic as a part of which several new books, comics and novels will be released. The series would be set around 200 years prior to Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.
In 1977, Obi-Wan Kenobi told Luke Skywalker “For over a thousand generations, the Jedi Knights were the guardians of peace and justice in the Old Republic. Before the dark times, before the Empire.” Since then, the fans have witnessed lots of second part of this quote, and now the focus will be on the first part.
Star Wars: The High Republic will answer two questions- First, what is the story of thousands of generations of Star Wars and second what scares the Jedi. The announcement of Star Wars: The High Republic was done via an event on Monday night. It was revealed that Star Wars: The High Republic will have 5 books as a part of phase one. It obviously means that more phases will be there, which means that the audience might enjoy a new Star Wars movie or show for a couple of years.
Lucasfilm and Disney (that is currently enjoying the success of The Mandalorian on Disney Plus), shared the names of the books.

- Star Wars: The High Republic: Into the Dark by Claudia Grey
- Star Wars: The High Republic: A Test of Courage by Justina Ireland
- Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures by Daniel José Older
- Star Wars: The High Republic by Cavan Scott.
All these authors have done incredible Star Wars work in books and comics in the last few years.
“We are so excited to be opening up such a rich, fertile era for our authors to explore,” stated Lucasfilm’s president Kathleen Kennedy. “We’ll get to see the Jedi in their prime.”
The Star Wars: The High Republic will begin with the release of Light of the Jedi that will be released on August 25. It will be followed by Ireland’s book, A Test of Courage that is slated to release on September 8. It will be followed by Grey’s book, Into the Dark that’s expected to be out on October 13. After that, two ongoing comic book series, by Older and Scott will be released.
