Start saving your penny till Christmas 2020 and gift yourself with the Playstation 5. Sony has confirmed that the hugely anticipated PlayStation 5 will land just in time for the silly season. Perfect timing, if you’re the kind of person who likes to spend Christmas day eating way too much and then playing Crash Bandicoot for the afternoon while everyone else naps.

Playstation 5 leaks its release date coinciding with Xbox’s launching on Christmas 2020 as the two engage in a sales war to define a decade.

Jim Ryan, the big man at Sony, confirmed that the next-gen console that was unveiled back in April is called PlayStation 5, and it will be released into the world in time for the 2020 holidays. Ryan went on to chat a bit more about the new controller that comes with the incoming PS5, which includes sensitive, reactive haptic feedback instead of the classic one-buzz-fits-all ‘rumble’ effect that would leave your hands feeling a bit tingly and numb after vibrating in your palms after hours of gameplay.

The other new thing in the fancy-ass controllers with the PlayStation 5 is the adaptive tech incorporated into the R1 and R2 triggers. Instead of just a single button for every shot, the new tech gives the feeling of tension and resistance, depending on what the character has in its hands.

“Developers can program the resistance of the triggers so that you feel the tactile sensation of drawing a bow and arrow or accelerating an off-road vehicle through rocky terrain,” Ryan wrote.

As for games, there appears to be plenty to get excited about. A number of rumours have already started swirling about what will hit store shelves to accompany the PS5, and according to online pundits, GTA VI will apparently release exclusively on PS5 for its first month, while Gran Turismo 7, an exclusive PUBG 4K remaster, The Last of Us Part II, a Ghost of Tsushima remaster, Battlefield Bad Company 3, a Harry Potter game, and a new Viking-based Assassin’s Creed will be available come launch day. Cyberpunk 2077,  one of the most hyped games in E3 will also be launching in this console next year.

The Playstation 5 will reportedly cost $500 USD (AUD 742) at launch, which despite still being sold at a loss, will still be $100 USD (AUD 148) more than the launch price of the PS4.
