A Captain Marvel movie in MCU phase 4?
Captain Marvel proved to be a big hit for Disney and Marvel. So, it was only a matter of time before fans could expect Captain Marvel 2. Fans were a bit surprised, and a lot shocked when the film wasn’t a part of MCU Phase 4. Now, we apparently know why that happened. It happened because the fourth phase consists of only the releases planned for 2020 and 2021 while the second Captain Marvel movie is probably expected in 2022.
The Hollywood Reporter has shared that Captain Marvel 2 will be released in 2022 and the probability is high that Megan McDonnell will be writing the script. As McDonnell was among the staff writers for WandaVision, she likely impressed the filmmakers. For those who don’t know WandaVision is expected to release this year on Disney+.
It has also been reported by THR that the sequel, Captain Marvel 2 might include a woman taking over directing duties from Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden. The duo has not separated from MCU and hence might be in-charge of a Disney+ series.
Talking about the plot, Captain Marvel 2 will be set in the present day. The first film was set in the 1990s. It will see Caron Danvers in a new phase of her life. There is no word yet on how intergalactic the film is expected to be.
Kevin Feige, the President of Marvel Studios, talked about Captain Marvel 2 in March when he said “The making of a first film is in some ways a brainstorm on the future and on what can be. So what it will be again is not clear. But what it could be is pretty amazing.”
In one of the Captain Marvel tie in specials, Feige also said “When we found out that Brie Larson might be interested in joining our world, we had a number of meetings. She was a huge fan of the character in the comics. One of the highlights of my career at Marvel was introducing her at Comic-Con and having her come out on stage and stand there with literally almost everybody else from our movies. There she was at the forefront, and it was a great foreshadowing – not just for how audiences are going to embrace Brie as this character, but also for how Captain Marvel is about to take the lead and be at the forefront of the entire Cinematic Universe.”
